Hi,
Sisters who live abroad and find it difficult to return to India on the occasion do send Rakhis to their brothers in India or wherever they are. Likewise brothers send Rakhi gifts to India for their sisters. Thus the festival doesn't lose its thread and is celebrated with all its traditional values, even if brothers and sisters have been set apart by worldly affairs.
